Leadership in the Community aims to provide training resources for individuals who are working, or wanting to work, in a community or with community groups, to enable them to become active leaders and initiators of change.
LinC is accredited through the National Open College Network at Levels 1 & 2 and is ideal for young people who have the aptitude and commitment to offer something to their community.

Are you an instructor who wants to have the necessary experience and skills to lead expeditions with your group? Do you have an interest in outdoor activities and wish to develop your outdoor leadership skills? Do you want to work towards a National Governing Body Award for the outdoors? Then look no further!
Mobex North East is a registered, approved assessment centre for delivering the Sports Leaders UK Level 2 Award in Basic Expedition Leadership and can offer you a specially tailored 11 week BELA course which concentrates on developing your outdoor leadership skills.
The BELA course offers you the opportunity to develop your leadership skills in both practical and theoretical sessions. The courses works towards achieving a number of aims:
1 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Leadership
2 Understanding Instructional and Organisational Methods
3 Planning and Preparing for an Activity
4 Understanding Conservation and Access in an Environment
5 Applying Basic Navigation Skills
6 Selecting and Using Appropriate Equipment
7 Planning and Completing an Activity involving Stops
8 Dealing with First Aid Emergency
9 Understanding Fitness and Weather Conditions in the Outdoor Environment
10 Demonstration of Leadership Skills
Total contact hours for the course are 112.5 per candidate with a maximum of 12 candidates per course.
Hours are based on 6 hours per day, 9.30am - 4pm. Overnight residentials run from 9.30am - 10.30pm on the first day and 7.30am - 4pm on the second day. A residential consists of one day and one night and totals 21.5 hours.
The venues for the outdoor sessions include Chopwell Woods, North Pennines in the Allendale area, North Northumberland area, North of Hadrians Wall, Kielder Forest, Foothills of the Cheviots and the Alston area.
