About Us - About Us
Mobex North East is a charity that was set up in 1991 with the following mission statement: "To provide learning opportunities for groups of young or disadvantaged people from the North East, to enable them to fulfil their potential using development training through quality Outdoor Adventure and the Arts, leading to greater involvement in their communities, either as leaders or as more active participants" As a charity we rely on the help of donations. If you would like to help us in our work and can donate money to us - no matter how much - we would be very grateful. We offer personal and social development training using adventurous outdoor activities and the media of the arts. We work with any group or organisation that works with young people throughout the North East. Over the nineteen years of our existence, we have steadily grown and developed into a number of specialised sub-projects including:
LEARNING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM MANIFESTO As signatories to the Learning Outside the Classroom Manifetso and recipients of the Quality Badge we support the statement that: "...every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances" How and where we learn is of vital importance and has been at the core of Mobex North East's approach to working with young people since it was founded. What we learn can help to improve our understanding, skills, values and personal development while significantly enhancing learning and achievement. "Learning outside the classroom is not an end in itself, rather, we see it as a vehicle to develop the capacity to learn" The 'Every Child Matters' outcomes are met through learning outside the classroom, especially enjoying and achieving, staying safe and being healthy. It also complements the strategy for young people set out in 'Youth Matters'. We are committed to working in partnership with others to achieve the collective priorities of learning outside the classroom and do this for the benefit of all young people now and in the future. What actions will we, as signatories, take? 1. We will provide all young people with a wide range of experiences outside the classroom, including extended school activities and one or more residential visits. 2. We will make a strong case for learning outside the classroom, so there is widespread appreciation of the unique contribution these experiences make to young people's lives. 3. We will offer learning experiences of agreed high quality. 4. We will improve training and professional development opportunities for schools and the wider workforce. 5. We will better enable schools, local authorities and other key organisations to manage visits safely and efficiently. 6. We will provide easy access to information, knowledge, expertise, guidance and resources. 7. We will identify ways of engaging parents, carers and the wider community in learning outside the classroom. Whatever the abilities of the people you support we are able to develop bespoke activity programmes tailored exactly to their needs and will complement your work. Through such programmes, we can help young or disadvantaged people, who may lack a sense of self worth, aspiration, self esteem or confidence, develop their: Communication Skills - Team Working Skills - Confidence - Self Esteem - Leadership Skills - Motivation - Trust in Others If life is a journey where we endeavour to learn from experience then Mobex North East can support people on that journey - providing a safe environment in which to try new things, gain new skills and create memories that will last a lifetime. Mobex North East primarily works to four main directives. Mobile - The essential nature of the Mobex projects is that they are mobile. We have a small office base and largestores area for our equipment and also deliver activities such as archery and fencing. From our Mobex Units (minibus, kit, equipment), Mobex staff will meet you and your group at a pick up point of your choosing. You will then be transported out of your local community and into a whole new environment for a variety of experiences in the outdoors. During the activity, Mobex staff will build on the experiences of the day and, with support from you as group leader, will work towards transferring this learning back into the everyday lives of the young people. Flexible - Mobex North East is able to offer programmes around your groups own personal needs. Mobex staff will visit you and your group and explore with you the objectives you want us to help you achieve. Individually tailored programmes will then be designed and delivered in consultation with you as group leader to maximise the transference of learning through a structured progression of activities. We have access to a multitude of venues throughout the North East, Yorkshire and Cumbria to enable us to deliver the exact programme you require. Low Cost* - Mobex is a charity, hence non-profit making. As an organisation we endeavour to fundraise to help with the delivery of activity programmes. However, we do look to make a charge to cover the cost of our daily running overheads, which allows us to continue to work with as diverse a client group as possible with the constraints of a limited budget. We endeavour to be as low cost as possible but realise that some organisations cannot afford even the lowest of charges. There are times during the year when we are able to either subsidise our costs or offer an activity purely for the price of the diesel. Please give us a call or keep an eye on this website in the NEWS section. Experiential - through direct Mobex experiences individuals can learn to grow, can learn to be creative, can learn how to understand and manage risk as well as raise their aspirations. *Whatever the charge, you and your group will receive: Transport Pick up and drop off at a venue of your choosing Driving to the site for your activity Fuel Costs Qualified Instructors AALA Activity Licensing £5,000,000 Public Liability Insurance All Specialist Equipment Networking - Mobex North East is keen to move people through their own personal development into areas and organisations that best suit these needs. Through the eighteen years that we have been in operation, Mobex has become central to a diverse network of other organisations around itself that empathise with the needs of young or disadvantaged people. We endeavour to be loyal to our four key directives - Mobile, Flexible, Low Cost and Experiential and by following these, Mobex North East stands apart as a unique provider of informal education in the North East. Demand for our resources is constantly growing and individuals never seem to lose interest in how Mobex can benefit them and their training needs. We are a charity and not a private firm. The activities we deliver and the prices we charge are based on us being not for profit but at the same time NOT FOR LOSS. We consider the safety element of all our activities without having to think about the maximum amount of people we can work with for the least amount of money. Other organisations or individuals may offer to charge less than Mobex North East - but at what risk and what quality? We NEVER put less than 2 members of staff to work with a group of young people - and we NEVER work with groups above what we believe to be a safe number. We know there are organisations out there who will offer to deliver an activity to 15 young people with only one worker attached to them. And you might feel that you are getting your monies worth - but ask yourself these questions: what have the young people gained; were they worked with as individuals or as a group; was time taken over the activity or were you rushed; was the equipment good quality; would you use them again? We know that risk is an important part of growing up. Understanding risk and managing risk are stages of development for every child. You may feel reassured that your child will never be put at an unmanaged or unreasonable risk by Mobex North East and certainly will never be put at risk because we need to make a profit. To discuss what Mobex North East can offer you and your group, please give us a call on 0191 2302830. We will be more than happy to discuss your group's requirements and design your own bespoke programme of activities working in partnership with you to ensure that your group achieves all its aims and objectives.
